Mary Howie 1936 to 2020

It is with great sadness we report the passing of our past vice president Miss Mary Howie, 1 Old Smiddyfield Park, Blyth Bridge, Peebles.

Mary’s passion was Galloways and her interest in the breed continued after she retired and sold her Carcraigs herd in the late 90s Mary continued to be Vice President of the Society until 2015 and even after that she still attended shows and sales and always willing to help promote the breed.

Friends of Mary are collecting stories and photographs to pass on to her family, if you would like to share your memories please contact:

The funeral is arranged for next Friday 12th June. The hearse will travel from Mary’s home in Blyth Bridge to Melrose Crematorium with the approximate times below which would allow people to show their respect along the route:

12.20pm @ 1 Old Smiddyfield Park
12.25pm Cortage leaves
12.40pm Carlops
12.45pm Spittal Farm Entrance
12.55pm West Linton
Onwards to Borders Crematorium for 2pm

It is sad that the Corona Virus restrictions prevent Mary’s many friends attending her funeral, but the wonders of modern technology at least allow the service to be shared, it can be viewed live at 2pm on Friday 12th June and for seven days afterwards. The link is:
