Galloway Bullock wins Native award at Livescot.

Scotland’s premier winter show – Livescot was held at Lawrie and Symington’s Lanark Mart on Saturday 24th November. An early start meant that the ring was not very busy for the native classes, but later on a packed ring witnessed the Galloway Champion – Chunk from JM & SM Priestley, Cracrop, Kirkcambeck, Brampton receive the overall native prize and the Galloway Cattle Society special prize of £250.00. This April, 2017 born Buccleuch Adonis son was bred by Kilnstown Farms Ltd, Kilnstown, Bewcastle and purchased at Harrison & Hetherington’s Spring Store Show and Sale for £1600.00. Chunk was 1st at Agri Expo at Carlisle in early November and was sold at Carlisle Marts Christmas show and sale for 249.5ppk or £1524.45.

Reserve in the Galloway Section was the first prize heifer Nerys 1921 of Romesbeoch, from J & S Ross, Romesbeoch, Shawhead, Dumfries,  this 25 month old heifer is by Penninghame Windward and out of Nerys 1306 of Romesbeoch,  this heifer is no stranger to the show ring as she was reserve champion at Dumfries show this summer.

In the Galloway Young members stockpersons competition, which was kindly sponsored by Nith Valley Construction Ltd, Glendal, Corstorphine Road, Thornhill,  there were four young members taking part.  First place and winner of the Billy Melrose trophy  was   Hayden McEleavey Ross, Romesbeoch, Shawhead, 2nd  Logan Murdoch Ross also from Romesbeoch, 3rd Kerry Scott, Cracrop and  4th  Beth Harvey, Balfron.  A tremdous well done to them all, every one a great asset to the breed.
