2027 will be a very special year for the Galloway Cattle Society as we celebrate 150 years since the Society was founded in 1877.

For a century and a half, generations of dedicated breeders have worked to preserve, promote and develop the wonderful Galloway breed. From its roots in south-west Scotland to the thriving herds found across the world today, the Galloway has a remarkable history, and one that we are incredibly proud to celebrate.

But this anniversary is about much more than the cattle. It is also about the people, families and friendships that have shaped the Society over the past 150 years.

We hope members, past and present, along with Galloway enthusiasts from near and far, will join us in making 2027 a truly memorable year.

Join Us for Our Anniversary Celebrations

We have an exciting programme of events planned throughout 2027, with opportunities to celebrate the breed, catch up with old friends and welcome new faces.

Friday 12 February 2027 – 150th Anniversary Dinner Dance

Join us at GG’s Yard, Gatehouse of Fleet, for a special evening celebrating 150 years of the Galloway Cattle Society.

Tickets are £50 per person and will go on sale in November 2026.

Friday 12 and Saturday 13 February 2027 – Castle Douglas Galloway Show and Sale

Our anniversary weekend will also include the Castle Douglas Galloway Show and Sale, bringing breeders and enthusiasts together for this important event in the Society’s calendar.

2–11 August 2027 – World Galloway Congress

We are delighted that UK will host the World Galloway Congress during our anniversary year.

This promises to be a wonderful opportunity to welcome Galloway breeders from around the world, share experiences, visit herds and celebrate the breed’s international connections.

An optional post-Congress tour is also planned for 15–19 August, visiting Devon, Dartmoor and Exmoor.

Saturday 7 August 2027 – National Galloway Show

The National Galloway Show will take place at Dumfries Show, providing another highlight of our anniversary celebrations and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the breed.

Help Us Celebrate 150 Years

We would love our members to be part of telling the Society’s story.

Do you have old photographs, memories, stories or interesting pieces of Galloway history tucked away? Perhaps your family has been involved with the breed for generations, or you have a special memory of a Society event or a well-known animal.

We would be delighted to hear from you as we look back over 150 years of Galloway cattle and the people behind them.

Sponsorship and Remembering Past Members

There will also be opportunities for individuals, families and businesses to support our anniversary celebrations through sponsorship.

We would particularly welcome contributions in memory of past members, recognising those whose dedication and enthusiasm helped make the Society what it is today.

It would be a lovely way to remember the people who have played such an important part in the breed’s history.
