Dumfries and Lockerbie Show – 1st August, 2026
Judge – Mr Alan Nixon, Nunscleugh, Roweltown, Carlisle
The prestigious Championship title at this year’s Dumfries Show was awarded to Kirkstead Lea G11, exhibited by the Ross family of Romesbeoch, Shawhead.
The stylish 46-month-old heifer is sired by Blackcraig Bugsy Malone and out of Kirkstead Lea D14, herself a daughter of the renowned Troloss Impeccable.
Kirkstead Lea G11 was purchased at the Castle Douglas Spring Sale in 2024 for 2,400gns and was shown with her stylish heifer calf, Lea 3001 of Romesbeoch an Ego of Romesbeoch daughter. She is no stranger to success, having claimed the Championship at the 2025 Royal Highland Show, Reserve Championship titles at both the 2026 Royal Highland Show and the Great Yorkshire Show, and, more recently, the coveted Champion of Champions title at Stewartry Show.
The Reserve Championship was awarded to the much-admired bull calf Rogan Cameron, exhibited by Society Vice Chairperson Carolyn Logan and her husband Dexter, of Greenhead, Alva, Stirling. Born on 2 October 2025, Rogan Cameron is a son of the world-record-priced bull Blackcraig Dyker, who was kindly loaned by Ian Campbell. Rogan Cameron was joined by another Blackcraig Dyker son, Rogan Carona, to win the McIlwraith Pairs Trophy.
Looking ahead, 2027 promises to be a landmark year for the Galloway Cattle Society as it celebrates its 150th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, the Society will be delighted to welcome delegates from around the globe for the World Galloway Congress, while Dumfries Show will proudly host the Society’s National Show. Together, these events will make for a truly memorable occasion and a date for everyone’s diary.
