Galloway Cattle Society Sale at Tavistock Livestock Centre, Tavistock on Tuesday 5th July 2011.

The second Galloway Cattle Society sale of 61 pure and crossbred Galloways was held in the classic West Country market town of Tavistock.  Although entries were down on the year, there was much interest from the South West and Wales for this new show and sale which is organized by local members.   

At the pre-sale show which was kindly sponsored by South West Water and The Duchy of Cornwall,  the two classes were very ably judged by Mr R Cornelius,West Rose. The male champion and winner of the Mole Valley Trophy was Mr John Heard, Hughslade, Okehampton with Fowley Superstar, this Montana of Nether Cleugh son returned home unsold.    The top price male was for a two year old bull, Exmoor Forest Rascal exhibited by Exmoor Forest Farms, Cornham Farm, Simonsbath, this Lord of Gall-way son and out of Drumhumprhy Hope  made 1700gns to well-known breeders AH & BE Cole, Greenwell, Yelverton.  The female champion who received the Fowley Challenge Slaver presented by  Ken C Heard,  Hughslade, Okehampton was Rowbrook Freya, a rising two year old Oslo of Little Mackum daughter from Miles Partridge Townwood Farm, Poundsgate, Newton Abbot, she made 680gns to the judge, Mr Cornelius.  Top price female was Fowley Mirage T214 from John Heard, Hughslade,  this 2008 born heifer by Montana of Nether Cleugh and out of Ben Lomond Mirage  made 700gns to J Cole & Son, Ivybridge.  

Other leading prices was for an 2004 born bull,  Syart Mosstrooper,  this Scottish born bull, from Messrs Jordan, Moortown Gate, Gidleigh, Chagford is a son of Hitman of Nether Cleugh and out of Syart Butterwort, he went home with EM Alford, Moortown, Tavistock for 1150gns. The next top price heifer was Fowley Major Nancy T265, this Penninghame Major daughter and out of Kirkstead Nancy made 680gns to Mr R Cornelius, West Rose.

Much sought after was a very level consignment of Bluegrey heifers from Mr Steve Palmer, High Netton, Hannock, Newton Abbot,  his much talked about pens made £805,  £755 and £700.  Also much talked about was a penful of Galloway steers from CD & DM Alford, Moortown which made £638.
