Okehampton Show
Judge Sam Smyth with John Heard

Okehampton Show – Thursday 15th August 2024. Judge:- Mr Sam Smythe, Woolhanger Estate, Exmoor.

Okehampton show is always one of the best shows for stock numbers and once again there were some good cattle on show in all the breeds. The weather did not play ball as the showery spells persisted all day.

The Galloways were once again shown in the pens and the judge this year was Mr Sam Smythe who is the farm manager at Woolhanger Estate on Exmoor. There were two senior bulls forward and the judge gave the nod to Crossdykes Elgin shown by John Heard and family. This 3 year old bull is in his second season for the Heards and is turning into a nice bull. Miles Partridges’  Craigmuie Queensbury was in 2nd place and this is also a big stretchy bull.

In the incalf cow class the judge placed the Heard’s family - Fowley Glengoyne Beauty 1st shown with her spring born bull calf at foot. This was the first outing for this stretchy young cow. Once again Miles Partridge’s Rowtor Lucy stood in second. In the cow & calf class Fowley Jetstream Sally with her spring born bull calf was placed 1st.  This again was a big stretchy cow and had a nice calf at foot by Crossdykes Elgin and she then went on to be placed overall champion with the bull in reserve.

With no heifers forward numbers were slightly down but thanks go to all the exhibitors for turning out on a very wet day and also many thanks to the judge.
